The Textile Industry – A Key Focus in the Energy Transition
The textile industry is among the most energy-intensive sectors, accounting for approximately 2–3% of global carbon emissions and remaining highly dependent on fossil fuels for processes such as spinning, dyeing, drying, and finishing.
In parallel, the industry generates significant volumes of organic waste, including cotton residues, textile scraps, and sludge from wastewater treatment systems. These by-products represent untapped potential for renewable energy solutions but are still underutilized in many production facilities.
Bioenergy as a Sustainable Pathway for the Textile Sector
Bioenergy is widely recognized as a practical and effective solution to support decarbonization in the textile and spinning industries:
– Waste-to-energy conversion: Organic waste can be processed into biogas or solid biofuels to supply heat and power for manufacturing operations.
– Carbon reduction in production: Bioenergy helps replace coal and other fossil fuels, significantly reducing operational carbon footprints.
– Circular economy integration: By converting by-products into energy, enterprises can close the resource loop and improve overall energy efficiency.
These solutions will be discussed in depth at the Biogas, Biomass, Bioenergy & Biofuels SAF Asia Summit 2026, with insights drawn from implementation models across ASEAN textile hubs, including Vietnam.
VCOSA’s Role and Commitment
As the representative organization of Vietnam’s cotton and spinning industry, the Vietnam Cotton & Spinning Association (VCOSA) supports and accompanies the event to promote dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of sustainable energy solutions within the textile value chain.
Through participation in specialized industry forums, VCOSA continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting member enterprises in their journey toward decarbonization, green growth, and enhanced competitiveness, in line with regional and global energy transition trends.
